Curious about how big condo projects happen? Come join us for a behind-the-scenes look at how projects go from owner complaints or Board ideas to real improvements. We’ll even dive into how reserve fund projects work! Whether you’re a Board member, thinking about becoming one, or just want to know more about how your condo is managed, this session is for you! Board members (and future ones) will learn about the full process: from assessing the situation, choosing the right contractors, overseeing the work, to managing surprise costs. We’ll also explore how reserve funds are used to pay for major projects and keep your condo in top shape. Non-Board members will discover what really happens behind the scenes and why these projects take time, effort, and teamwork. Walk away with a better understanding of how your condo community brings a big project from idea to reality!

    For Condo Owners:

    • Learn how decisions are made to improve your condo, including how reserve funds are used for big projects.
    • See how large projects are planned, so you understand where your fees are going.
    • Find out about possible challenges and red flags, so you’re always informed.
    • Feel more connected to your condo’s efforts to improve your home.

    For Condo Directors:

    • Get practical tips on managing big projects from start to finish, including how to use reserve funds wisely.
    • Learn how to choose the right contractors, stay on top of costs, and make sure things go smoothly.
    • Spot pitfalls and red flags early to avoid issues like unexpected costs or delays.
    • Share experiences and ideas with other Board members.
    • Build skills to communicate project updates and the use of reserve funds with owners, building trust and transparency.

Don’t miss this opportunity to get the inside scoop on how to protect your investment, enjoy condo living to the fullest, and build a stronger, more connected community.

Speaker: Stacey McDougall (RJC Engineers / Technologist)

Stacey is a technologist with RJC Engineers. Before finding her home in Building Science and Restoration, she worked in RJC’s structural engineering practice, drafting structural drawing packages and performing field review for buildings under construction. This experience has given her a solid understanding of a building’s structure as well as its exterior. Stacey is a key member of RJC’s Reserve Fund Study practice and believes in the importance of collaboration and education. Her experience includes investigation, reporting, designing/specifying repairs, and oversight of the restoration ofresidential and commercial building envelope and structural issues. Stacey’s interest in safety led her to become a National Certified Safety Officer (NCSO) and she is a key member of RJC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative. When not working, Stacey can be found in her kayak or watching her son play hockey.

In this presentation we take a deeper look at what Make up Air is, why it exists, how it works, why sometimes it doesn’t and how we can optimise it.
